Twelve young Toronto mothers watch the Dionne quintuplets' progress with an interest enlivened by the knowledge they helped to keep the babies alive.
These unnamed women gave human milk the first week after birth when Elzire Dionne was near death.
An appeal by Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe was speedily answered by the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, which obtained the milk from the healthy young mothers.
The Ontario Red Cross, which has provided nursing service and borne other expenses, plans to step aside now, proud of its work.
The Red Cross appointed Madame Louise de Kiriline, experienced in her work at northern outposts, chief of the nursing staff. She was assisted by Miss Yvonne Leroux, Callander graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital, North Bay, and Miss Pat Mullins, also of North Bay.
Throughout the year the nurses became strongly attached to their little charges.
